Transcript

“What’s a power of attorney and why do you need one? Should you become incapacitated, meaning you can’t make decisions for yourself, a power of attorney identifies who will make those decisions for you while you are incapacitated.

For example, if you fall into a coma your power of attorney for your finances is in charge of all of your assets including ensuring that your home doesn’t fall into foreclosure and you have a home to return to when you come out of your coma.

Your healthcare power of attorney, who can be a different person than your financial power of attorney, will make sure that the hospital is abiding by your wishes and the healthcare decisions that you make in your power of attorney.”
